Laura Newman
Laura Newman is a voice of liberation and a multidimensional artist living in NYC. A prolific singer and songwriter, she opened 6 times for Neil Young as the Diva of the Church of Stop Shopping.
Laura has directed hundreds of films including the feature film comedy WE ARE THE HARTMANS starring Richard Chamberlain. As a cinematographer, she is most well known for capturing the ‘water on fire’ shot in the Oscar-Nominated documentary GASLAND which galvanized activists and led to the banning of Fracking in NY State.
Laura is the mother and lead singer of the Abracadabra Field Trip, a mobile concert and AirBnB Experience that plays on the roof of a bus at parks around NYC. Her unique performances combine theater, film, music, performance art, and activism, inspiring and unifying diverse audiences. Laura’s music renditions of the 1st Amendment and the Declaration of Occupy Wall Street have become anthems for peace, heard on stages, and in the street all over the world.
She currently works with a variety of companies; The House of Yes, The Feedfeed, The American Heart Association, and LifeForce Studios a company she co-founded that specializes in films that save lives. She is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts.
